Car Accidents on Interstate 30 in Dallas

Interstate 30 (I-30) in Dallas, also known as the Tom Landry freeway, is a common spot for accidents and drunk drivers. A lot of us travel I-30 on our way to and from work every day, making it one of the busiest freeways in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

In June of 2016, two semi trucks collided on this stretch of road, killing 3 people. Earlier in 2016, Amy Gardner was killed when her car was hit by a drunk driver. And just a week ago, another person died on I-30 when his vehicle collided with a truck which was towing a trailer.

Safety First

After getting into an accident on I-30 in Dallas, the first thing you need to do is make sure you and the other car occupants are safe. If warranted (and safe), get out of the car and move any mobile and slightly injured passengers to a safe spot away from the middle of the road. If your vehicle is immobile and you have reason to believe other drivers may have a hard time avoiding the crash scene, stay in your vehicle and call 9-1-1.

Call 911

Call 9-1-1 and request an officer. If you believe anyone may be injured, request medical as well. If you are able to, check to see if there are any passengers that may be bleeding heavily. Apply first aid as you wait for paramedics, and swathe them as well as yourself with heavy blankets to help lessen the effects of shock.

Take Down Contact Information

As you wait for law enforcement and/or first responders to arrive, take down the contact information and registration plate numbers of witnesses and other cars involved in the accident. Ask for their names, numbers, addresses and insurance policies so that nothing is left to chance.

Do Not Make a Recorded Statement Until You Talk to Your Lawyer

One thing that’s very important after a serious car accident is to never speak to an insurance representative without first speaking to your attorney. If you don’t have an attorney, call 1-800-ATTORNEY for a free consultation. While this is not required, it’s STRONGLY recommended.

The insurance company’s job is to look for information that will either lower the amount you are entitled to as damages or invalidate your claim. Insurance companies are known for asking leading questions and misinterpreting your responses for their own benefit. You are not required to give a recorded statement by law, so always decline unless your attorney advises otherwise.

Can I Handle My Case Without a Lawyer?

Of course you can handle your own insurance claim, but understand that there is a HUGE difference between a property damage claim and a personal injury claim. While property-damage-only claims are generally pretty straight-forward, the same cannot be said for personal injury claims. While the insurance agent may act nice at first, you must be aware that they have a vested interest in paying you less than you deserve. Our role is to advocate on your behalf in order to secure a fair settlement, and to fight for every penny you deserve.
